Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid to win 3rd UEFA Super Cup title

Europa League champions Atletico Madrid clinched their third UEFA Super Cup title after beating their city rivals Real Madrid 4-2 at the end of 120 minutes on Wednesday, August 15. Diego Costa opened scoring for Los Rojiblancos barely one minute into the game after firing home a powerful shot from the right side of the goal post. France international Karim Benzema level parity for the Santiago Bernabeu side in the 27th minute with a fine header from a Gareth Bale's cross. The Galacticos took the lead for the first time in the game following Sergio Ramos' spot kick in the 63rd minute after Diego Godin was flagged for handling the ball in his box.

But a 79th minute equaliser from the Spanish national team striker helped Diego Simeone's men stretch the game into extra time. Saul Niguez's 99th minute volley gave Atletico the lead for the second time in the game and a simple and fine finish from koke wrapped the victory up for the Europa League champions as they hand Julen Lopetegui his first defeat as the new manager of the Galacticos. 























Meanwhile, Diego Costa's early minute goal is the fastest-ever UEFA Super Cup goal after scoring a 50 seconds goal.
