BARCELONA AND MANAGER ERNESTO VALVERDE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THAT STAR TO BOOST THEIR SQUAD AND HAVE TARGETED A PREMIER LEAGUE STAR, AN ENGLISH LEGEND HAS WARNED THE PREMIER LEAGUE GIANTS.
The Catalan giants have been searching for that marquee star who can help both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez when it comes to scoring goals and making the difference at key moments. While Barcelona did sign former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho during the January window, the La Liga giants are still not happy, with a former England star warning a Premier League giant that they will come after their star once again.
That’s exactly what former Liverpool and England star Emile Heskey has warned his former side, that Barcelona will return for former AS Roma star Mohamed Salah. An incredible season in the Premier League, the PFA Player’s Player of the Year went on to score 44 goals and produce a further 15 assists in all competitions and broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2007/08 record for most goals in a season.
Not only that, Mohamed Salah is in a very special club with the Egyptian now leads the list for the most goals in a single Premier League season with Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez, all at 32. All this form and incredible goal-scoring ability has made the 26-year-old a top target for Europe’s biggest sides, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and even Bayern Munich shortlisting and chasing after the Egyptian star.
However, former Liverpool and Leicester City star Emile Heskey has asked his former side to be careful, going on to say “When you are looking at a player of Salah’s ability, all of the top clubs are going to be looking at him. They all sniff around at the best players and they all want the best. Inevitably you can’t get away from that, especially with the way he’s been playing.”
He further added that Liverpool isn’t too dependent on Mohamed Salah this season, with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and even Xherdan Shaqiri present to pick up the slack. “I think they do seem a little more balanced. They still want to out score teams but they’re now not so heavily reliant on Salah. Mane has come into his own and Firmino – even though he doesn’t get all the goals – what he brings to the team I enjoy watching. Inevitability he will get his get his fair share eventually too.”
AUTHOR’S TAKE:
Things don’t always go according to plan but with Mohamed Salah, things for Liverpool have gone above and beyond what they ever expected the 26-year-old to produce. But next season will most certainly prove to be a turning point in the Egyptian’s career and if he can reproduce his form, then Salah can most definitely be considered as one of the best in the world.
